I’ve been trying so hard to get my house – okay, let’s be honest, my life – together for the last few months. I have yet to share any photos on this blog of our little rental. So we gotta change that.
I may have broke out the Christmas decorations “too early,” but I don’t care what you scrooges have to say. November 1st I pulled all the boxes upstairs, turned on my Pandora Christmas station and got down to it. Then I stopped by Target last week and basically purged their entire dollar section. I only went in for a tree topper, because when we pulled ours out it was broken. But somehow I left having spent over $100… Okay, okay…. $200….. How does one shop at Target and not empty their entire bank account? I’ll never know.
My favorite piece in the whole house is this couch. We’ve only ever had hand me down couches, and when we moved this time I made it a priority to get us a new couch. I’d saved up some money, and I knew I wanted a cognac leather sofa. I’m obsessed with this color. The warmth. I just love this couch!! And let me tell you – this couch is SO comfortable. It’s dangerously comfortable. The first weekend we had it my husband and I took a nap two days in a row! I never take naps!!! It’s impossible to get all cozy on this thing and not fall asleep. I fall asleep on it almost every single night when my hubby and I curl up to watch TV after putting the kiddo to bed. Yeah, it’s that comfortable.
Anyway, I normally have these giant white quilted pillows on it. I usually prefer a lot of neutral tones, but when Christmas comes around I have to add some red. And red is one of my favorite colors! I already had this big wood music score on the wall, and I just kind of decided to add some garland to the top because it was cut the perfect size. Then when I was at Target I found this banner in the dollar section. Isn’t it perfect?! My other favorite thing in this room is the Christmas throw blanket. It has gingerbread men and gingerbread houses all over it! A family member gave it to me because they thought I’d like it as a photo prop. They were right! I used it for my Christmas mini’s this year. And it goes perfect in my living room as well.
I love our Christmas tree. It’s small. But it comes with great memories. My husband and I bought it our first Christmas together as a married couple. We were living in a little one bedroom apartment, our first home, and he was on duty on Christmas day. So we had to celebrate after. We went to Walmart and all of the Christmas stuff was on sale since it was the day after. We decided to limit our spending to $50 and bought this tree, the lights, red ornaments, the gold garland, and a red star tree topper (the one that was broken this year). It was a fun Christmas with just the two of us. This year I added the wood bead garland, the deer ornaments, the white braid garland, and the new tree topper that I went into Target for originally.
I also got these stockings and stocking holders at Target. The holders were in the dollar section and the stockings are Hearth & Hand. So is the berry garland. I flipping love Joanna Gaines by the way.
I got these wooden Christmas trees from Homegoods one year. But I never actually got the chance to put them out until now! Aren’t they adorable?!
Next up, the kitchen!
I’ll be honest, it was a lot harder to decorate the kitchen. I hate my counters being crowded. I love clean, empty surfaces. So I didn’t want to put too much on the counters. These little trees were perfect!!
My favorite part of the kitchen is the wreaths hanging from our sliding back door. They were the first to go up. And the garland I just added last night. It was just what I needed. The kitchen towel is my favorite pop of red! But I still think I need more red stuff in here! Don’t worry. I’ll work on that.
These little houses I got in the dollar spot at Target as well! I’m obsessed with all the little houses. My mom had a village collection growing up, and every year we’d buy her a new piece. We had a town hall, a post office, a radio station, and more! It was literally like a little town! It overtook the front room. These remind me of that, but in a more modern and neutral way.
If you couldn’t already tell, I’m in love with chalkboards. I originally started buying them as photo props, but I’ve found them to be so useful on several occasions. Baby showers, birthday parties, etc. Now I love using them around my home! And this big chalkboard has always been one of my favorite wall pieces. My son loves to color on it too!
Well, that’s it for now!! I’ll be working on adding some Christmas touches to our bedroom soon hopefully. I hope you enjoyed taking a look at our home! And maybe found some inspiration for your own home as well!
Until next time!
Britny
Omg I love this look!!
