I’m back! And this time I’m sharing my 3 year old’s bedroom! I’ve been slowly collecting items for this kiddo’s bedroom, and I can’t tell you how many times I’ve changed my mind on the decor. When our son was born my husband wanted everything blue, and I, of course, wanted everything neutral. (My husband is very traditional – but I love him anyway.) To compromise we painted his bedroom walls a bright royal blue color, and all the decor was neutral colored. It was not my favorite thing. (Shhh, don’t tell my husband… Just kidding. He knows.)
From the beginning, we’ve had the shark theme picked out. I’m a shark week lover, and there are a lot of fond memories between my husband and I that revolve around sharks and shark week. His nursery was shark themed, his clothes were shark themed, his baby shower was shark themed. lol. So many sharks.
The thing I love most about his room is that almost all of the furniture was free or thrifted! We got his white dresser off of Facebook market place and it wasn’t in the best shape. So I sanded it and my hubby helped me paint it the first time while I was pregnant. It was gray with white drawers. When we moved to this rental home I painted it white to help brighten up the space. Ironically, I’ve found that his room is the brightest one in the whole house. But I love it anyway. I’d love to get some different drawer pulls, but I haven’t found anything I like yet. There are a lot of things I’d still love to do in my kiddo’s room. But since we rent, I’m limited.
I also got his bed frame and rocking chair off of the marketplace. (I love FB marketplace.) This bed frame you guys. I am SO in love with it. I wish that it fit our queen size bed because I’d replace our whole bedroom set in a heart beat for this thing. It’s so beautiful.
I got the rocker when we moved in here, and it is honestly so comfortable. I wanted to put it in our front room, but when I went to pick it up and test it out it was so comfortable I thought, “Whenever we decide to have another baby, it’ll be great for late night feeds and rocking baby to sleep.” So it went into Samuel’s room. Most likely we will still live here when we have another baby, so I’ll end up turning this bedroom into a shared room between them. It’ll be interesting. I’m excited for the challenge.
This crochet shark is one of my favorite things because it’s so sentimental to me. When I was pregnant with Samuel this was the first shark thing I bought. One of my friends at the time hand made it for him, and she also made a mobile with different shark species on it. Unfortunately it got broken during all of our moves, but I will hang on to this guy forever. I imagined a shark just like this laying in his crib and she made my vision come to life.
I wanted to keep his bedding simple and minimalist, but I also knew I wanted some tribal patterns in there. These mudcloth look-a-like pillows were perfect. I found them at AtHome. Obviously the tassels won me over.
I got both this organizer and the shelves above it from Ross. I seriously adore these shelves. And the organizer fits all of my sons little toys in it perfectly. I also got his rug from Ross.
My husband carved the fin on the top shelf out of a piece of wood while he was on a deployment. It’s one of my favorite things in this room as well, for obvious sentimental reasons. The little crochet shark on the bottom shelf was part of his baby mobile. The wood shark on the stand was the souvenir we brought back for Samuel from the Dominican Republic last year.
Obviously I’ve got a few things from Target in this room. His bed sheets, the shark head on the wall, the pillow fort organizers on his dresser and chest of drawers. The white ceramic shark on these shelves is a piggy bank from Target, and it was one of his Christmas presents. He loves to collect change.
This adorable shark head is from Etsy. So is the one above his dresser. Those also came from his original nursery. I splurged on the hammerhead shark. #worthit
Lastly this chest of drawers is from my husband’s mom. We found this in their garage when we were moving her out of her house. It was my husband’s great grandmothers. It’s obviously not in perfect condition, with a few scuffs and chips here and there, but it has so much character. And it’s been perfect for organizing my sons puzzles and such.
Well, I hope you enjoyed a snap shot of Samuel’s big boy room! It’s taken 3 years, but I’ve finally got something I love out of it. Truth be told, I cleaned this room and took these photos while my son was spending the day with his Meemaw, and I kept walking back in there just to admire it. Partially because it was newly decorated, and partially because it was clean. That’s rare for a 3 year old’s room. lol. Hopefully next I’ll get to share our living room progress!
Stay tuned!
